Schuger Run Kennels

As a Nebraska native, I grew up in this state chasing the ever-elusive pheasant.  Every weekend and snow day, every excitement and frustration gained from hunting pheasants encouraged me to learn to hunt behind bird dogs.  While in highschool I was able to work during the summer months under the wing of proffesional dog trainer John Luttrell of Luttrell Gun Dogs in Clark, SD.  Mr. Luttrell introduced me to the huge world of dog training and all that it entails.  Through his own learnings and passion he taught me his philosphy on how enhance every dogs innate ability to hunt.  The combination of these experiences eventually lead me to the Pacific Northwest as a kennel manager and professional dog trainer for an elite outfitter.  Here, I was able to expand my experience and grow my knowledge of dog training and upland hunting.  Oregon is a beautiful state that has a lot to offer for every outdoor enthusiast, especially for a bird hunter.  On a daily basis I hunted valley quail and pheasants in the creek bottoms, or scaled canyon ridges on horse back in search of chukars and huns.  This was probably one of the greatest experiences of my life, being able to see how different breeds of dogs can transition from one species of birds to another, from one type of terrain to the next.  While in Oregon, I pursued and bagged six species of upland birds and hunted behind 10 plus breeds of dogs (I recommend anyone to head out there if presented the opportunity).

My passion for dog training and bird hunting has only strengthened from my experiences in life.  Our dogs will always be our best friends in and out of the field.  They help us create those unforgetful memories: good, bad, and many times, humorous.  Working with dogs will always be a part of who I am.
