Professional Gun Dog Training

At Schuger Run Kennels, our focus is to bring out the full potential of your dog by aligning our training methods with their personality. We offer three levels of training beginning with our Puppy course, which focuses on exposing your dog's natural abilities and creating a strong foundation for future training. The Gun Dog course builds off the Puppy class by introducing your dog to obedience, force fetching and control in the field. In the Finished Dog course, all the edges are sharpened and your dog learns steadiness to wing, shot, and fall. Pointing breeds are our specialty; however, we do offer training for flushers and retrievers.

*All training packages include taxes and birds, as well as a short training course for the dog owner to carry over SRK’s training techniques into their daily lives.

Puppy Course - $950/Month (1 Month Course)

The Puppy course is centered around foundational training, delivered to pups as young as 5 months old. This phase creates a relaxing, fun environment in order to draw out your dog’s natural ability. Dogs in this course will be introduced to the gun, retrieving, pointing, and live birds. All dogs are worked from a lead and check chord with basic obedience enforced. During this course the dog's strengths and weakness are evaluated, with results given to the owner at the time of pick up.

Gun Dog Course - $950/Month (3 Month Course)

Once the foundation is established in the Puppy course, we then build off each dog's strengths and improve their weaknesses. This is done through basic obedience, collar conditioning, force fetching, and whoa breaking. The combination of these tools produce cleaner retrieves, steadiness to the flush, and gives the handler more control in and out of the field. At the time of pick up, the owner and trainer will spend a half day to engage in all training methods and commands. This ensures a continued team bond between the dog and its owner.

Finished Gun Dog Course - $950/Month

(3 Month Course)

This course is an extension of the Gun Dog, and is the most advanced level. Intended for the extreme bird hunter and/or hunt test enthusiast, this stage focuses on challenging your dog’s steadiness. With obedience, force fetching, and whoa breaking already established, the next step is to finish a dog to wing, shot and fall. By the end of this course, your dog will be steady from the flush until commanded to retrieve any downed birds. At the time of pick up, the owner and trainer will spend a half day to engage in all training methods and commands. This ensures a continued team bond between the dog and its owner.
